The True Gift Is In The Giving

One of the things that I have noticed in working with thousands of massage clients in the last 10 years is that the most painful suffering we endure isn’t physical or even mental and emotional. It is spiritual. We all have a deep desire for meaning in our life. A quest for significance. Some proof that our existence is substantial in some way.

We run around looking for proof from the outside that this is true. We tell ourselves stories about “if I was just sexy”, “If I was just rich”, “If the world just saw things my way”, “If I was just as smart as ____ then I could be special”. Essentially saying “I need the world to prove to me how important I am in order for me to feel good about myself”.

Some even suffer so painfully from this internal thirst that seems unquenchable that they create a coping strategy to say that they no longer have this need. That the world has never done anything for them, and they find ways to escape. Alcohol, drugs, TV, work, even spiritual pursuits that allow them to “get the hell out of here”.

The craving, avoidance, and desire for validation, and even its opposite, a refusal to play the game (what better way to be significant than by being able to claim that you no longer play by the rules of such a childish human need, and have no need for validation) is at the core of so much of that aching and nagging at the core of being. Yet, it stands in the way of us truly receiving what we want most.

Our deepest levels of satisfaction do not come from what we get from life, but what we give to it. Contrary to what our egos tell us, the deepest satisfaction we receive is not through being loved, but through loving. Not from receiving validation but through giving it. Not from receiving value, but through contribution.

No amount of accumulation of money, compliments, and love will ever truly satisfy you if you do not feel like you have contributed your best to the world. We do not truly crave accolades, we have a deep longing desire for meaning. It doesn’t have to be grandiose and on a world stage. It can come in the form of opening a door for an old lady or old man, working with the homeless, or owning a multi-national corporation. We all have something that makes our life feel meaningful, that quenches that thirst of the spirit, and makes us feel like we are living on purpose.

So go out and find it, just remember that your worthiness will never be validated and your thirst will never be quenched through what you receive from life if you do not feel like you have given value deserving of what you receive.

The Trapezists Dream~

"  … Faith, and Trust, and Pixie Dust.”  ~Peter Pan /J.M. Barrie

Life's a bit like this right now!  I'm on a bridge between two life chapters. Holding on & letting go. Self generating inertia and leaping from one perspective to the next. In non figurative form > my day job of past three years came to a close Saturday and I'm STILL searching for a place to live. Countdown to demolition on our current rental = 23 days! I'm really under the gun here but it always  seems to work out in the end. Usually at the 11th hour  … are we there yet??? lol

On one hand it's exciting to see a new chapter opening up. On the on the other? Well,  it's faith, trust and a whopping dollop of elbow grease mixed in with that pixie dust!

While I'm still channeling creativity through Music & Art I've had very little time with my camera lately 🙁 Hence the recent re-shares of older images. This is likely to be the case over the next month as I re-sort the basics of food & shelter.

Thanks again for being part of the adventure & please accept my apologies in advance for being less communicative.

Cheers to rounding the bend! Man, I sure hope the view's a good one … when I get there I'll be sure to take a picture & share it  😉

All the best~ Gx

Big dreams, Little Wonders~

Today's addition to http://www.32auctions.com/World-First. I'm auctioning off the  #1 print of some of my most loved works. This is the chance to own a signed, limited edition, museum quality print. Auction closes March 30th.

Do you remember a time when every little thing was full of wonder & your dreams were big? It's so important to keep that spirit alive in our hearts no matter what our age.

Is there a dream you're working toward? Are you setting the wheels in motion to make it true? Please, feel welcome to post your dream in the thread below & I'll spend a few moments visualising  it as your reality 🙂

Many Blessings~
G

Alternate Realities ~

After much deliberation …
my submission for this year's +Plus One Collection.  I thought this image suited the “Our World” theme, choosing a subcategory from   “Our Planet”, “Our People” and “Our Creations”  puzzled me for a few moments. Haha,  this tiny world contains all three!

The new edition will be absolutely chock full of AWESOME! If this photograph makes the book  I will consider it a great honour to be among such talent. Many thanks to +Ivan Makarov & the team of supporters who work so hard putting book together each year.

The Samburu Project (this year's charity), provides access to safe, clean drinking water to Kenyan communities. During my youth I had the daily chore of hauling fresh water from a nearby stream to our remote cabin … bloody hard yakka! A source of reliable clean water is such a simple yet profound gift.

#VideoOfTheWeekend : How To Be Creative
(9 mins) Creativity has always been essential for our cultural growth, but there are still many misconceptions about this elusive process. Not the left-brain/right-brain binary that we've come to believe, being creative is considerably more complex, and requires a nuanced understanding of ourself and others. Being a powerful creative person involves letting go of preconceived notions of what an artist is, and discovering and inventing new processes that yield great ideas. Most importantly, creators must push forward, whether the light bulb illuminates or not.
