Unusual (hai) Verse (ku)~

In a paper frame
the maiden still, for all time
remnant of her self~

Good weekend Googlies!

One of my current obsessions is up-cycling found objects with beautiful Japanese papers. Each page is quite expensive so I've taken to photographing & layering them … totally hooked & can't wait to create a series working with the idea.

Spending less time online as things manifest in the physical world but still enjoy checking in on your lovely images, original songs, tech updates, goings on & works of art. Thank YOU all for keeping G+ an inspirational place to hang out 🙂

If you're in Sydney during the month of May feel free to stop by my exhibition in conjunction with the #headonphotofestival. More details
will be posted at www.gretchenchappelle.com or you ca join the event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1554385481493691/

Sol Luna :: The Complete Series

However subtle and intangible the significance of a Solar or Lunar eclipse is on the human psyche (or the planet), it always seems to stir the imagination. Fun theme to work with over the past couple weeks -certainly no shortage of theories out there to investigate!

Hope you're all feeling a little lighter after the long weekend : )

Cheers from Oz!

My mentorship on Lighting with Intent is ready for sign-ups!

►►► Read the instructions before you sign up! ◄◄◄

This is a special program through the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers designed to help you understand light and make use of it to add emotion to your photography rather than have it constrain your creativity. You will learn and experiment with off-camera flash, light modifiers, combine flash with ambient light, and play with a host of other lighting techniques.

I will be taking on a handful of people for a nine week online mentorship program which includes lessons, assignments, and informal discussions. Everyone who participates can have fun and learn at the same time.

My passion for photography (or more precisely conceptual photography) has burgeoned over twenty years ago. Photography has always been for me a playground for art to intersect with technology; a place where I can explore new domains by pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone. Lighting is one such domain.

I will be joined by an outstanding group of passionate photographers, artists, helpers, who will be there for questions and discussions as well as dispensing a good dose of cheer up. If you are as excited to acquire new skills as I am to share them, join me for an exciting and creative ride.

This is an advanced class. In order to participate, you must have a solid understanding of your camera and exposure in manual mode. You will need a camera with a flash hot-shoe (SLR or mirrorless). By the time we start, you will also need at minimum the following lighting equipment:

– An off-camera flash on which you can manually adjust the power
– A flash remote trigger (cable or wireless)
– A light stand with a softbox (or alternatively an umbrella)
– A reflector (or a large piece of white cardboard)
– A set of gels. For example the Rosco Strobist kit
– A tripod for your camera

If you are looking for specifics, here is the equipment I am using: www.ericraeber.com/Blog/Studio-lighting

PLEASE NOTE: Do not apply for this workshop if you do not meet these criteria.

Selections will begin on April 15th and the mentorship will start on April 25th

This is not first come first served. We will review the application and here are my selection criteria:

• You must be taking and posting your own photographs regularly here on G+ –– an absolute minimum of three posts per week; more increases your chances of being selected. (The class itself will be private to the group selected except for the option of a weekly post and a public display album of your best work at the end.)

• You must be interactive here at G+, as you will be expected to participate in this program giving feedback and comments to others.

• You have no previous studies in this subject, since this program is designed for those who have not had the opportunity or advantage to add this skill set to their knowledge base.

• You have the time available to participate in this workshop. You will be given about 3 different assignments each week.

• You must own or have access to the equipment above during this entire mentorship

I will use the same selection criteria that +Robin Griggs Wood uses for her "G+ Mentorship Art for Photographers Program", which you can read about here to see if you qualify:

To be considered for selection, please comment to the main post only, here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+EricRaeber/posts/CGeSiag5RRp and answer the following questions in your comment:

1) Photography skill level
2) List the lighting equipment you own (or will have access to)
3) Your three favorite subjects
4) Aspirations within photography
5) Current job or profession
6) Previous art studies
7) Amount of time you have available for participation

1) Intermediate hobby photographer, shooting for 5 years
2) Canon Rebel T3i, 2 x Yongnuo YN-560 flash, RF trigger, softbox, stand, gels, tripod, reflector
3) Still Life, Portraits, Macro
4) To get my first paid shoot for a client
5) Full-time grocery store clerk
6) I have no previous art studies
7) I do have a job and two kids, but have most evenings free.

The +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers is run by program directors +Robin Griggs Wood +Ron Clifford and +Alex Lapidus
